Oppong Nkrumah Hands Over Ninth School in Ofoase-Ayirebi

The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi Constituency in the Eastern Region, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has commissioned a newly completed school block at Abenase Methodist School, bringing the total number of school facilities he has delivered since 2017 to nine. The project is part of ongoing efforts to improve access to quality education in the constituency, which he described as historically deprived. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the MP emphasized the role education has played in transforming lives within the area, including his own. He noted that his personal journey reflects how education can create opportunities and uplift families and communities. Since taking office, Mr Oppong Nkrumah has focused on replacing temporary learning structures, particularly schools held under trees, with permanent classroom blocks. According to him, the newly commissioned facility is the ninth of such projects completed over the past nine years. He further revealed that two additional school projects are currently under construction and are expected to be completed within the year, which would increase the total to eleven. The MP explained that the aim of these projects is to provide a better learning environment for students, enabling them to perform well academically and contribute to the development of their communities in the future. He encouraged students to take their studies seriously, remain disciplined, and strive to achieve greater success. The Abenase school adds to several other educational projects across the constituency, including facilities at Akyem Anyinase Presbyterian Basic School, Akyem Bontodiase Presbyterian Basic School, and Akyem Ayirebi Presbyterian Junior High School. Several six-unit classroom blocks have also been constructed to ease overcrowding and replace old structures. Funding for many of these projects has come from the World Bank and the Oppong Nkrumah Education and Skills Development Fund, established in 2017 to support infrastructure development and improve teacher welfare. The new school facilities include modern classrooms, staff rooms, office space, electricity, and sanitation facilities to support effective teaching and learning. Beyond education, the MP also highlighted efforts to improve accommodation for public sector workers. He said the Ministry of Works and Housing is constructing housing units for teachers, doctors, and other essential workers in the constituency. Plans are also underway to provide bungalow accommodation for teachers to help improve retention and service delivery. Mr Oppong Nkrumah expressed appreciation to contractors and stakeholders for their support and urged parents and teachers to maintain the new facility.
